Weber Grill Rotisserie: Wood Handle

Of course my old Weber Grill Rotisserie did not line up with my new Weber Genesis grill, so I had to buy a whole new one. My old one had a nice large wood handle. The new one has an oval metal handle that sits at right angle to the rod and it gets as hot as if were inside the grill. You have to use pot holders to remove it when the food is done. Also the handle needs to be in the up position in order to grab hold of it because it sits about a half an inch away from the grill body when it’s facing down so there’s no space to grab it. Because the handle does not extend out, you need two hands on the spit to support the weight of the food. An absolutely horrendous design, perhaps even dangerous. Lastly; why does Weber Grill Rotisserie include cheap metal screws, nuts and washers for mounting the motor bracket when everything else is stainless steel? They corrode in no time with the heat and grease. I replaced mine with stainless. Aside from the poor handle design, for cooking the set-up works great. We use ours all the time; roasts, pork tenderloin, chicken, turkey.

Nice sharp blades and smooth action. Much better than my old one to operate. Easier safety switch to hold when operating. Battery time was over 30 minutes. Works great.

Baby Building Blocks: Early Skills

Ten bright blocks are ready for baby to drop into the open bucket or through the shape-sorting lid. Baby will love filling the bucket these baby building blocks, dumping them out, then starting over again. Great for eye-hand coordination and other early skills. Then baby can move on to sorting and stacking and learning about identifying and matching shapes. Includes plastic shape-sorting box with take-anywhere handle and ten colorful blocks. My son loves to mouth and whack these blocks together. They make a great sound when thwacked together. I was worried about the plastic california thing til I realized that practically everything is known to the state of california to cause cancer. They are plastic after all, as are most of his toys. These were cheap and have great sound. The baby building blocks box is nice because it makes a lot of racket when he plays with the blocks against it. The lid does not stay on. I am not sure my son will ever use it as intended, but I guess I do not care. Maybe when he gets much older, but as it is, he loves to mouth the lid too. It is very interesting to him to hold and manipulate. And it has an embossed side that the block sound good rubbed against.

Little Tikes Car: Push Pedals

This classic kid powered Little Tikes Car has a whole new look. New features include removable floor and handle on back for parent controlled push rides. Designed with a high seat back and storage in the rear. Includes special features like an "ignition switch" and an open-and-close gas cap. Rolls on rugged, durable tires and front wheels spin 360 degrees. My son was transfixed watching this get put together. I purchased this instead of a " little" big wheel as he is only 18 mos. and this fits him so much better. I did not find this hard to put together although you need to put some elbow grease into it for few of the parts so it will stay together properly. Good directions that were easy to follow. Everything was in the box except the Little tikes front logo plate. Doesn’t effect the fun or function so no big deal. Most importantly he loves to push the car around and get in and pretend to drive. He really enjoys getting pushed around in Little Tikes Car too. Hasn’t tried moving it himself yet. That may take a while since he will have to push it flintstone style with his feet through the floor. Over all it’s a great toy that will last.

I was a bit disappointed with the fact that because I was using such a large vessel (a bit wider than the unit itself) much of the escaping heat burned a lot of the black paint on the unit and emmited a not too pleasant smell for some time. I guess this is inevitable, and they probably just paint them for astetic reasons, but this is a hot flame! I also bought an extra burner (model BG10) for about $10 and a 20psi regulator kit, so if you had an extra stand or could improvise, that would be another way to go to get the same quality heat.

Hickory Wood Chips: Grilling Flavor

My Dad doesn’t have an official smoker – he has a hellified gas grill with every attachment and option known to man. And he’s good on a grill. What he didn’t have was any way to smoke anything. So for fathers day we bought him some little box with a handle called a "smoker box," various bags of flavored wood chips, and a rib rack. Maybe it was due to the chips, maybe the rib rack or maybe it was my Dad’s skill on the grill – but he DID create the best ribs he’s ever made after we gave him his gifts. I know very little about smoking – but I do know that as we were all sitting outside chatting, I could smell the hickory wood chips in the smoker box… and I’d consider buying some just to chuck in the fireplace to get that fantastic smell. My sister and I DID shop around a bit, and we discovered that Amazon actually did have better prices (as of Fathers Day of 2009) on the hickory wood chips then any of our local retailers.

Playskool Step Start Walk N Ride: Learning To Walk

Our daughter received this Playskool Step Start Walk N Ride as a gift for Christmas when she was 8 months old. It is still her favorite 2 months later! She is starting to walk on her own and this toy has been a great help to her. She doesn’t care for the car part of the toy, but the walker has been great. In reading the other reviews, I see that there have been some complaints about the attachments or design. So far, our child has not been injured or pulled anything off of this toy. It has been pretty durable. She does tip the Playskool Step Start Walk N Rideover on occasion, though. An unbalanced child can easily tip this, but it does not seem heavy enough to cause an injury and Veronica has always just gotten up and kept right on going. It is small enough to take along in our trunk and we take it with us when visiting. I think this is a great learning-to-walk toy.

Hot Wheels Race Track: Fun Race Track

This Hot Wheels Race Track has been played with ALOT since getting it. Both my three year old and 5 year old (and 40 year old) love it. They need help when the ramp comes apart if stepped on or played with roughly, but eventually they will be able to do it themselves. Unlike a million other car tracks on the market this one does not involve time for assembly nor time for looking for all the parts. In that sense it makes life so much easier for the parents! There are only 4 pieces. They click together easily. And they store neatly as one piece. I bought it for our 2 year old and he loves it. He loves to guess which car will win and understands the lanes and the numbers. His older cousins have as much fun with it as he does. The one drawback of the Hot Wheels Race Track is the stability of the support for the higher car track. It should be a little stronger. Overall, great fun, great value for money, and a great gift idea for any kid.

They are a good size – an adult of medium build could sit in one. My kids can get in and cross their legs inside too. The shape is great – two of them fit together to form a kind of spherical shape. The two holes are inspired as they love putting them on their heads and looking through the holes. They have found a ton of uses so far! They spin the bilibo and put a marble in and watch it go around. They spin around in them themselves. They have used it as the center in their block building expeditions, as a seat and to port toys around the house.

Braun Clean And Renew:

You don’t HAVE to use the cleaning function of the Braun Clean And Renew. You can use it like any other shaver and clean it with a brush. But if you don’t mind paying ~$60/year on these Braun Clean And Renew, then the cleaning system works great. I hope eventually someone decides to make generic versions of the refills or sells the fluid only so we can refill them (like they do with inkjet printer cartridges). I would NOT take the advice of the guy who recommended using alcohol and lemon juice as a refilling liquid. Lemon has sugar (and other impurities) in it, and alcohol doesn’t have lubricating agents and may strip the lubricating that the blades need. Cleaning every other day may seem like a money-saving idea, but I have found that even if you don’t use it for weeks, the cleaning fluid still evaporates and you have to replace it almost as frequently, so I figure I might as well get the benefit of cleaning rather than let the stuff just evaporate away. I hope Amazon starts selling these things directly since buying it from J&R is not a good deal because of the shipping charges.
